The recently-sweltering New York City heat and Devon’s return to the United States have prompted Nicole to update the readership on selected goings-on of her favorite metropolis. But first, we pause and remark that several new blogs of interest seem to have cropped up lately. This post singles out I Ate My DVD Collection, which features music and movie reviews ala Break Out the Oreo’s most faithful Obie. (Note: here, BOTO refers to the first definition.) As always, links of interest are provided on the right-hand side of the screen, on the main page.

Hey, all! Stay tuned for BOTO’s general (if you’ll excuse the pun) impressions of the Democratic nominee for President of the United States; a review of Tarsem Singh’s gorgeous film, the Fall; and another celebration as the Mets welcome back Pedro Martinez, to be completed upon Nicole’s daily escape from the drudgery of the Center for the Study of Human Rights’ office. In the meantime, I’d recommend that you visit Coachean Life and Election Day Countdown. The first link will transport you to the blog of Nicole’s high school debate coach, which you should read if you are at all interested in high school debate, architecture, world travel, the written word, or cantankerousness. The second offers the measured analysis of a political pundit in training. Enjoy, and we hope you visit BOTO again later this evening (E.S.T.)!
UPDATE: Please note that “later this evening (E.S.T.)” really means “in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, E.S.T.,” as far as BOTO is concerned.

So, as our fabulous readership may have ascertained, Devon and Nicole have decided to keep baseball in BOTO. Your co-writers quickly learned just how much their helpless passion for the sport informs their take on New York City and the world at large. But, while BOTO is by no means a baseball blog, our recent, admittedly heavy coverage of the sport may have overshadowed our treatment of other pertinent issues. With this in mind, Nicole presents a new candidate for BOTO mascot and a review of Broadway’s “Global Smash Hit,” in addition to a celebratory report about how the Mets are back (!!!!!) after the jump:

As any baseball fan from the Northeast tell you, the baseball season starts at the beginning of April but doesn’t really heat up until the first Yankees-Red Sox series. As it is, the New York-Boston rivalry is now more heated than ever, and not only because of the Sox’ recent success. So while some people may claim to be tired with classic rivalries (really, Michigan-OSU, too?), Break Out The Oreos remains committed to bringing you fair and balanced reporting of the famed rivalry. After all, it is, as described by an anonymous friend of BOTO, “unparalleled in any sport and possibly unparalleled in the entire world, with the possible exception of Israel-Palestine.” Let’s just hope that Boston never gets the Bomb.

Our lead-off story: recently-instated Governor of New York David Paterson (Columbia ‘77) admitted earlier this week to doing marijuana and cocaine during the 1970s. City Room has a helpful chart concerning various politicians and their statements concerning prior substance abuse. Between Paterson and Barack Obama, marijuana and cocaine must really be scaring the values voters more than normal right now.
